NASCAR announced another penalty against Clint Bowyer’s race team that could ultimately destroy any chance of a title in 2015 for MWR. On Sunday morning Bowyer’s racecar failed a prerace inspection at Chicagoland Speedway. The report sais the No. 15 team had parts not properly installed on its Toyota machine.
Bowyer’s team was docked 25 points which drops him to 16th which is the last place of the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship field. The crew chief Billy Scott was also suspended and fined $75,000.
With only two races in the first round of the Chase playoffs, Bowyer most likely will have to win one of those races to advance.
MWR most likely will appeal the penalty. Kevin Harvick will move into 15th place.
Michael Waltrip Racing is closing shop at the end of the season due to lack of funding. The team has had its share of controversies and penalties since the company began operations in 2007.
Bowyer does not have a new deal for 2016 at present time.
