Who are we to argue with award winning columnist Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe? He’s been covering the New England Patriots since Moses walked on water. However in his latest column about the logjam atop the AFC East standings caught my attention for all the wrong reasons.
Shaughnessy gives Buffalo no chance to knock off the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady let Patriots. Did he not watch any of the Bills game against the Colts? Was he unaware that the D-line was without All-Pro Marcel Dareus?
So what if Tyrod Taylor is just a rookie. Football is about execution. Until now, no team in the AFC East has been able to play to their ability when they found themselves lined up against the Patriots consistently. Buffalo has been slowly but surely putting together the most talented roster it has had since the Super Bowl years. Not only do they have the talent to match up against New England but they also have a coaching staff with the guts to punch Belichick right in the mouth.
Ryan isn’t afraid to match wits with one of the game’s greatest coaches (or best cheaters). Ryan has a knack of slowing down Brady and with the Bills relentless defense, and this entire city’s pure hatred for “Tommy Boy” there better be an ambulance close by once kick-off happens.
I’m not sure Brady makes it through the game. Other than TE Rob Gronkowski, there is little to respect about that Pats offense. Their big win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday was nothing special. The Bills crushed that defense in preseason.
Sure, the Pats have the rings and they have won 11 of the last 12 division titles but their time is coming to an end. The entire organization from Robert Kraft down has lost all credibility after all of the shenanigans that have been reported over the past few years. Nobody, outside New England trusts the Patriots. Spygate, Deflategate what’s next? Being in bed with Roger Goodell hasn’t hurt the Patriots. That’s about the only thing that hasn’t been uncovered. What does Kraft have on Goodell anyways?
The article in particular takes several shots at the Bills, Miami Dolphins and NY Jets and rightfully so. Shame on all three organizations for hiring and signing bums all these years and allowing Brady and Belichick to run amok.
Those days of looking past the Patriots games as losses are so yesterday. Where other coaches in Bills history could only sell hope, Ryan instills Bills fans confidence that Buffalo can have what New England has had. The beauty of it all is Buffalo won’t have to cheat to do it.
