One of the biggest rivalry games of Saturday was between Williamsville North and Williamsville South. Not only are these teams cross-town rivals, but they are also in the same division, both fighting for playoff position. Both sides had big fan turnouts to watch the two Williamsville teams go to battle.
In the 1st quarter the Billies got the ball first. They were able to sustain about an 8 minute drive that was capped off by a 1-yard TD run from QB Jack Holyoke.
The 2nd quarter started with a Will North TD. QB Jason Hwang threw a 44-yard pass to Anthony Maniscalco. The extra point was no good so South kept the lead by a slim 7-6 margin. A few drives later, North had the ball again and Hwang threw a long 68-yard bomb to senior Wide Receiver Nick Maranto for the TD. They converted on the 2-point conversion which maked it 14-7 North with 5 minutes left in the half. The Spartans broke a long TD run but it got called back because of an offensive holding call. A few plays after that, senior Jordan Buell came up with an interception that gave the Billies the ball back. Unfortunately there was not enough time left to capitalize on the turnover for Will South and the half expires. Williamsville North lead 14-7 over Williamsville South at halftime.
The 3rd quarter did not include any scoring, but the Billies suffered a huge loss. Will South’s Quarterback Jack Holyoke is taken out due to a shoulder injury and is replaced by sophomore Josh Foster, the younger brother of Matt Foster who is the team’s leading receiver.
In the 4th After being thrown in a tough spot Josh Foster threw a total of three interceptions. One of those picks set up a 16-yard North touchdown as Jose Padilla found his WR Jairus Huggins that made
it 21-7 Spartans for the game’s final score.
In the end, North was too much for the Billies. The win puts Will North in first place and seals the division title for them. Next week North will face Hamburg and Williamsville South drops down to the 4thseed giving them a tough matchup against South Park in the first round in the first round of the playoffs next week.
