Battle Creek- Day 1 of the NABF World Series ended with a thrilling come from behind victory for the hometown HBC Behnke team over the defending champions Battistoni Diesel from Buffalo, NY on Wednesday. On Thursday all 12 teams would be in action as the tournament continued in Battle Creek, MI.bcws

The first game of the day featured two teams from Pool B where the New Rochelle Robins hosted the Hackensack Troast at Morrison Field. The Troast had a 3-1 lead for most of the game until they let loose in the 8th inning scoring 6 runs.

Pool A’s Lake Erie Buckeyes and the Brooklyn Sports Fever had a slugfest in their match-up Thursday with the Buckeyes winning 16-15. Lake Erie came out swinging early, scoring 12 runs over the first 3 innings. Brooklyn answered back in the bottom 3rd scoring 5 runs and adding three more in the 4th. The teams played a scoreless 5th and then the floodgates opened again. The Buckeyes scored 2 in the top of the inning and the Sports Fever dropped 6. Both teams added a run each in the 7th before the Buckeyes scored the game winning run in the 8th, holding on in the 9th with a 16-15 win. Brooklyn made 8 errors while the teams combined for a total of 40 hits.

The first Pool C game featured the Cleveland Black Wolves and the Fort Wayne Jackers. The Black Wolves scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back. The Jackers could only muster 6 hits and a single run. Cleveland also scored 3 runs in back to back innings and scattered 23 hits in route to a 13-1 victory.

The Robins were back in action again Thursday afternoon for their 2nd game of the day and it went as well as the first. This time the Beecher Muskies shutout New Rochelle 10-0. The Muskies played error free ball and collected 12 hits while the Robins struggled at the dish all day.

The Chicago Clout and Brunswick Orioles played a tight one in a Pool C match-up at Morrison Field. Chicago took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th. That’s when the Orioles bat came alive, driving in 5 runs and taking a 6-3 lead. The O’s added another insurance run in the 5th and it’s a good thing they did. The Clout scored a run in the 8th inning to draw within 3 and another in the 9th to make it a 2 run game. Brunswick settled down and shutdown the Clout to preserve the W.

The Battistoni Diesel were back in action against the Brooklyn Sports Fever (Pool A) with both diesel logoteams coming off losses. Brooklyn jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and held onto it until the 4th. Battistoni scored 3 runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Diesel would give up a run in the bottom of the 4th making the score 3-2. Diesel added an insurance run in the 7th which would prove to be the difference. Brooklyn put a run on in the bottom of the 9th to make things interesting but Battistoni held on. A tough loss for the Sports Fever who committed 5 errors in this one. A disappointing day to say the least for Brooklyn, dropping both games.

The Muskegon Blue Jays split two games Thursday defeating the Hackensack Troats (1-1) 5-4 and falling to the Beecher Muskies 7-4. Stats for these games were unavailable. HBC Behnke (1-1) fell to Lake Erie (2-0) 3-1 in the last game of the day.

The game to watch Friday will be the defending WS champ Diesel take on Lake Erie at 12 noon.
