The Washington Capitals announced Friday that they have agreed to terms with Ilya Samsonov on a three-year entry-level contract. The Caps first round, 22nd –overall pick from the 2015 NHL Entry Draft spent this past season playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL.
The 21-year old appeared in 26 games and posted a 2.31 GAA and his save percentage was .926%. His post season numbers through five games were roughly the same.
Samsonov has appeared on the International stage as well, playing for Russia at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge, 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2015 Under-18 Five Nations tournament where he earned top goaltender honors.
Washington expects Samsonov to attend their 2018 Development Camp next month.
