Miami Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident. Fernandez, who was 24, and two other men were found dead after their 32 foot boat was discovered crashed near Miami Beach. The Marlins released this statement this morning.

News of his death sent shockwaves through the baseball community. Players from around the league sent their condolences through social media.

What makes this story even worse, is just a couple of days ago Fernandez posted an Instagram post of his newly pregnant girlfriend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Fernandez family and his child.
