Leonetti Joins Baseball Coaching Staff

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara head baseball coach Rob McCoy has announced the addition of Stephen Leonetti to the staff as an assistant coach.

“Coach Leonetti is a great addition to our coaching staff,” said McCoy. “He shares our philosophy of culture and development first. He is a transformative leader and will immediately and positively impact both our player development and our recruiting.”

Leonetti joins the Purple Eagles after serving as the Director of Player Development and Baseball Operations at UConn for the 2018-19 season.

Prior to UConn, he served as the recruiting coordinator and catcher’s coach at San Diego Mesa College, which is a junior college in the California Community College Athletic Association. Following the season, he served as a head coach for the Springfield Sliders Prospect League.

Leonetti worked as an assistant coach for the Mystic Schooners for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He helped the team to a championship in 2016. During his time with the Schooners, he coached the catchers and corner infielders, while also completing assistant general manager duties.

Leonetti also spent time coaching at Santa Barbara City College (2017), Central Methodist University (2016) and Alexandria Aces Collegiate Summer Baseball Club (2015).

Leonetti earned his undergraduate degree from Roger Williams University in 2010 and completed his master’s degree at Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment, part of The New School in New York City.
